Week 1 - Belated

As the first entry to the blog entry I want to first establish my enthusiasm for film and the art of storytelling.  Whether watched on the silver screen or captured on my broken point and shoot both have played a major part in my recreational fun....       until now.  With Art 201 Intro to Filmmaking I now have the opportunity to get hands-on-professional training with a decent side of reading.  Which leads me to "Looking Through Video: The Psychology of Video and Film" by John Belton.  Although the article focused roughly 42% of it's prose analyzing it's choice of title as opposed to the subject of the title it offered a good deal of insight as to the differences between video and film.  Belton also suggested looking at video as an audio medium.  By taking me on a genealogical dig through video's history I was able to see those differences from the very beginning.  I especially appreciated the history behind Dolby Digital and how encompassing Ray Dolby's innovation was.

  1. glad you got something out of the article. it wasn't the most inviting read, but there are some important aspects of video technology as compared to film that i think are important to consider, especially as makers. i appreciate your enthusiasm and look forward to seeing more of what you come up with in your work this semester.
